Team L&M

India’s leading theatre group, The Films and Theatre Society, is all set to stage its latest Hindi comedy play My Wife’s 8th Vachan in Mumbai. The production brings together a strong cast featuring Anup Soni, Vinay Jain and Monisha Singh Katial in a humorous yet emotionally layered story about marriage, relationships and misunderstandings in modern couples.

A Hindi Comedy Play About Marriage and Everyday Conflicts

My Wife’s 8th Vachan is a family comedy drama inspired by the realities of married life. The story revolves around Madhur and Mahek, a couple married for 15 years who constantly find themselves arguing over trivial issues. Their ongoing conflicts become so intense that their daughter decides to move to a boarding school to escape the daily chaos at home.

When Mahek decides to have a serious conversation about their failing marriage, an unexpected truth surfaces—the mysterious “eighth vow” she made at the time of their wedding. This revelation sets off a chain of comedic and emotional events, raising questions about love, commitment and second chances.

Atul Satya Koushik on Writing and Directing Comedy Theatre

Writer-director Atul Satya Koushik shares that comedy, especially at this scale, is both challenging and rewarding.

“I have done comedies in the past but more as experimental and workshop productions. This is my first serious attempt at comedy at this scale. Comedy is difficult because you never know what the audience will find funny. As makers of theatre, all we can do is stay honest with our content and let the audience decide if it resonates,” he said.

Anup Soni on Exploring His Comic Side in Theatre

Actor Anup Soni said the play allowed him to break away from his serious on-screen image and explore comedy.

“Every actor wants to explore different genres. I usually have a serious image, so it’s refreshing to surprise the audience. The script is contemporary and relatable, and I’m sure people will connect with it because it reflects everyday life situations,” he shared.

Vinay Jain on Returning to Theatre After Four Years

Vinay Jain expressed excitement about returning to the stage after a long gap.

“This play explores human relationships in a very contemporary and relevant way. Atul has written a brilliant slice-of-life script that will make the audience laugh and reflect. It’s a fulfilling experience for both performers and viewers,” he said.

Monisha Singh Katial on Playing a Modern Woman

Monisha Singh Katial described her character Mahek as a reflection of today’s woman.

“Mahek has all the shades of a modern woman. She is inspired by real-life situations and people, making her extremely relatable. The play is not just a comedy but also carries a strong message,” she said.

A Must-Watch Hindi Theatre Comedy in Mumbai

My Wife’s 8th Vachan promises a mix of humour, emotion and relatable storytelling, making it a must-watch Hindi theatre production for audiences who enjoy family dramas with a contemporary twist.
