Delhi’s theatre landscape is set for a remarkable cultural moment this May. Felicity Theatre is presenting Jaane Pehchaane Anjane, a musical comedy-drama. It is written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker and theatre visionary Gajendra Ahire. And,. produced by Anupam Kher Studio.

The play promises to elevate contemporary Indian theatre with an emotionally charged narrative, memorable music, besides powerhouse performances.

The much-awaited Delhi premiere will take place at Kamani Auditorium from May 22 to 24, 2026. It offers theatre lovers an immersive experience that blends emotional complexity with musical brilliance.

A Story That Holds a Mirror to Modern Relationships

At its core, Jaane Pehchaane Anjane is not merely a stage production — it is a thoughtful exploration of human connection in an age defined by emotional distance and shifting social equations.

The story revolves around a set of seemingly ordinary neighbours — a widow, a widower, a young paying guest, and a woman navigating mid-life separation. Each character wrestles with loneliness, expectations, and the quiet ache of emotional isolation.

Through sharp wit, layered storytelling, and deeply relatable moments, the play examines the relationships we often assume we understand, while challenging audiences to reconsider the emotional truths hidden beneath familiarity.

In an era where relationships are increasingly shaped by convenience and digital detachment, the play asks urgent questions: What truly defines companionship? Can emotional intimacy survive societal conditioning? And how do individuals rediscover joy amidst silence?

These are not easy questions — and that is precisely where the production finds its strength.

Anupam Kher Returns to Delhi’s Stage

One of the biggest draws of the production is the return of veteran actor Anupam Kher to the Delhi stage, alongside the Swaroop Sampat.

Others in the cast include Meghna Malik, Maya Sharma, Vikas Rawat, Shraddha Mandale, and Herman De Souza.

Says, Anupam Kher, “Bringing Jaane Pehchaane Anjane to Delhi, feels like bringing a story home. For, this is the city where I spent years learning acting at the National School of Drama. This play speaks of relationships we recognise yet rarely pause to question. And, it is in that pause that its truth exists.”

Signature Storytelling

Gajendra Ahire is kown for his emotionally raw and intellectually engaging storytelling. And with Jaane…, he once again demonstrates his craft.

“This is a story that doesn’t arrive with answers; it invites the audience to find their own. That creative philosophy defines the essence of Jaane Pehchaane Anjane. It doesn’t dictate conclusions. It creates a reflective space where audiences can confront their own understanding of love, companionship, solitude, and identity,” he says. “The story will linger long after the curtains fall,” he adds.

Anu Malik’s Grand Leap into Live Theatre

Anu Malik delivers the musical score, bringing his signature cinematic flair and unforgettable melodies to the production. This is his first major foray into live theatrical composition.

Singers Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh, Anandi Joshi, and Anupam Kher have sung the songs. The lyrics are by Kausar Munir, and choreography by Chirag Aggarwal.

Jaane Pehchaane Anjane is more than another theatrical release. It is a meditation on the emotional landscapes we inhabit but seldom examine. For Delhi’s theatre lovers, this is not just a show to watch. It is an experience to feel, question, and carry home.
