CAIT launches halla bol against Amazon across the country
Memorandum given to district collectors in the name of Prime Minister in more than 500 districts of the country

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and the leaders of more than 20 thousand trade organisations have launched a halla bol campaign against Amazon, the foreign e-commerce player accused of violating the laws of the land in the nation. CAIT members also handed over two memorandums in the name of Prime Minister to the District Collectors in more than 500 districts across the country. In Delhi the memorandum was given to the Divisional Commissioner of Delhi Monika Priydarshini.
In the first memorandum it has demanded an immediate implementation of e-commerce rules under Consumer Protection Act and in the second memorandum the CAIT referred to news about alleged bribe given by the Amazon through its lawyers to government officials demanding a speedy CBI probe into it. The traders body is running a month-long national campaign (September 15-October 15) on e-commerce for largescale rigging in e-commerce business of India.
In its memorandum to the Prime Minister, CAIT has also demanded a forensic audit of Amazon’s financial documents that have been given to government departments over the years so that the issue of bribes to government officials through Amazon’s lawyers could be checked. If fond guilty, all such officers should be penalized as per the law, said CAIT memorandum.
“The manner in which Amazon has indulged in intentional violation of rules & laws pertaining to e-commerce sector of the country and keeping high scale of rigging is very serious and needs to be condemned in its strongest sense,” CAIT National President Praveen Khandelwal. “It has painted India as a banana republic and have termed the Indian laws so weak that they can “managed” is a serious issue and needs to be looked into,” he added.
“The responsible authorities proved to be an utter failure in taking any action despite lodging several complaints. Even the strictures passed by Supreme Court & Karnataka and Delhi High Court were set aside by the administration which is a serious matter,” remarked CAIT National President BC Bhartia. “We have called an emergency meeting of our National Governing Council in Varanasi on September 30 and October 01, in which the country top leaders will participate and discuss all the steps taken by the government on e-commerce and decide the future strategy,” he added.
