Art exhibition to support road safety & prevention of drunk driving

To support the cause of road safety and prevention of drunk driving tragedies, the Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD) is organising a group art exhibition the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
CADD was started back in 2001, by Prince Singhal to campaign for prevention of drunk driving that most often leads to road accidents. “The art community has whole-hearted supported in since then,” says Singhal adding that drunk driving is the single largest cause of road accidents in the country. “It causes 1,00,000 road deaths annually and most deaths are in the productive age group of 21- 45 years. The fact is these deaths are totally preventable. Despite that, it has taken us over two decades to bring this issue on the national platform,” he rues, while expressing gratitude to the artists who have always stood behind him for the cause, and with the best of their creations to help raise fund for victims of drunk driving and road accident and also for CADD’s other projects.

“Due to this support we have recently been able to win two Public Interest Litigation (PIL’s) which helped us to bring a new law to have mandatory “Don’t Drink and Drive” message on alcohol bottle labels and also have mandatory age check at alcohol points of Sale to check underage drinking in the National Capital,” informed Singhal.
The exhibition would feature artworks and sculptures by some of India’s well-known and contemporary artists, including MF Hussain, Manu Parikh, Paresh Maity, Jayasri Burman, Anjolie Ela Menon, Thota Vaikuntham, Laxma Gaud,Ramesh Gorjala, Madhvi Parikh KG Subramanyan, F. N. Souza, Kishen Khanna, George Martin, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Sakti Burman, Lal Bahadur, GR Iranna among others.
The exhibition will also have prized artworks of well-known celebrities such as paintings by renowned Kathak Maestro Birju Maharaj, Veteran Actor Sushma Seth and Sarod Maestro Ayaan Ali Khan.
