Kuppies: India’s Pioneers of Authentic Ready-to-Eat Western Food

It was during his college days in Boston, USA, that Jeevash Vaid got fascinated by the wide selection of Western food available at grocery stores. “I loved buying food at cost-effective prices since my pocket money did not allow me to eat out regularly,” he says, adding that he dreamed of a day when students, professionals, homemakers, and friends could enjoy easily available Western food at affordable prices in India.

From Garage Startup to Nationwide Brand

Determined to bring authentic Western food to India, Vaid took a loan and launched Kuppies from a garage. “Initially, we managed selling just five cakes a month, but today we have reached the milestone of 5,00,000 cakes per month. Additionally, we sell 75,000 pizzas every month,” shares Jeevash. He attributes this success to hard work, passion, and the dedication of each team member.

Jeevash is fully supported by Uni Vaid in this venture. Together, they bring over three decades of experience in the food industry. Jeevash is a graduate of Boston College, USA, and Uni graduated from the Ivy League’s University of Pennsylvania. Both have been franchisees of Subway Restaurants for over a decade and operated a bakery before launching Kuppies.

Redefining Western Ready-to-Eat Food in India

As pioneers of authentic Western ready-to-eat food in India, Jeevash and Uni aim to redefine the market through Kuppies, which specializes in ambient, fresh (chilled), and frozen packaged foods prepared under world-class conditions. “If you haven’t tried this emerging indigenous brand yet, some of our frozen desserts are available at 1,700 Café Coffee Day outlets and 1,100 Domino’s Pizza stores across India,” says Vaid.

Kuppies’ bestselling products include cost-effective brownies among ambient desserts, while the Heat & Eat Pizza range leads in savory offerings, alongside pastas, calzones, and other ready-to-eat Italian meals.

“Our Heat & Eat Pizza range is first-of-its-kind, getting crispy in a microwave in just three minutes. It took four years for our R&D team to perfect this unique product,” adds Jeevash.

Innovation, Quality, and Authenticity

Kuppies operates a modern 35,000 sq ft factory with a daily production capacity exceeding five metric tonnes. The magic behind Kuppies’ products lies in their recipes. “Our in-house trained chefs, food scientists, and technologists have developed these recipes. We have never hired external consultants, ensuring authenticity and unique taste in every product,” says Uni.

Available across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Kuppies plans to expand into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The brand is also targeting all sales verticals, including modern trade, general trade, online channels, railways, and its own food services division.

“Our target is to be available in 5,000 stores across India by the end of 2019. The Kuppies family is truly enjoying this unprecedented growth,” concludes Jeevash.
