The Last Leaf
Rajkumari Sharma Tankha
Small, yet hardly green,
It sticks stubbornly to the branch,
Against sun and rain, breeze and storm,
The last leaf of tree.
I know- inside me,
I will live as long as this leaf,
Gently moving in life,
As it sways in gentle breeze,
Or going through a storm inside me,
As the leaf bears the rain outside.
My movements parallel to leaf’s,
We are growing together,
A part of great tree of mankind,
I will last only as long as my companion does,
Then one day with sun smiling on to us,
Gently we will slip away,
The leaf and me
We’ll become one with dust.
