From Medicine to Fiction: Sania Siddiqui’s Journey with My Stuff Speaks

It is not every day that a child wins a school prize for writing a humorous piece instead of a formal essay on My Favourite Sport. But that unexpected moment became the spark that ignited Sania Siddiqui’s writing journey.

She was just eight when she cleverly described badminton and lawn tennis as “relatives,” explaining why she preferred the “slimmer cousin.” “Winning a prize was the most unexpected thing then,” recalls Sania with a smile.

A Creative Beginning Rooted in Curiosity

Born in Delhi and raised in Lucknow by parents who were both Kendriya Vidyalaya teachers, Sania grew up in an environment that valued education and creativity. Today, she celebrates a new milestone with the release of her debut fiction book, My Stuff Speaks.

Over the past decade, Sania has written across diverse subjects—from vector-borne diseases and healthcare topics to fashion trends, product reviews, recipes, and parenting tips. But fiction, she says, was always waiting in the wings.

From Doctor to Writer: A Seamless Transition

A graduate in medicine from Jamia Hamdard, Sania began her career in the clinical field before moving into healthcare market research with a US-based firm in Gurgaon. Later, after relocating to Pune, she shifted her focus to preventive medicine.

Yet, the transition from writing prescriptions to writing stories came naturally.

“Easy peasy,” she says. “Creative writing comes to me inherently.”

Writing, it seems, runs in the family. Her mother, Dr Shaheda Siddiqui, is a well-known Urdu satire writer with several published books to her credit. A former Kendriya Vidyalaya principal, she continues to inspire with her energy and enthusiasm.

“Even at 67, she is ready to start something new, travels extensively, and is eager to learn how to create sponsored content on Facebook,” Sania shares.

The Idea Behind My Stuff Speaks

The concept behind her debut book is both imaginative and refreshing.

“I have always been fascinated by the idea of personifying inanimate objects,” says Sania. This fascination once led her to write a piece titled Being a Sofa, and the idea stayed with her over time.

That lingering thought has now taken shape in My Stuff Speaks, where everyday objects come alive and share their perspectives—offering readers a unique and engaging narrative style.

Balancing Life, Writing, and Inspiration

Sania credits her 12-year-old daughter as both her closest companion and toughest critic—a balance every writer needs.

As she prepares to work on her second book, Sania leaves aspiring writers with a powerful message:

“One should never let educational qualifications become a hindrance in pursuing passion. Being an engineer or architect should not stop you from becoming a photographer later in life if that is your calling. ‘Never Say Never’ is my mantra.”

A Story of Passion Beyond Professions

Sania Siddiqui’s journey is a compelling reminder that passion does not have to be confined by profession. From medicine to storytelling, her path reflects the power of creativity, persistence, and self-belief.

Her debut novel, My Stuff Speaks, is not just a book—it is a testament to listening to one’s inner voice and daring to explore new dimensions of expression.
