The World Animal Day was selected in honour of the feast of Francis of Assisi, who was regarded as a patron saint of animals. The day was first celebrated on March 24, 1925 at the Sport Palace in Germany’s Berlin city by Heinrich Zimmermann, the German writer. It was moved to October 4, in 1929.

A few years ago across India and the globe before the boom of the internet and social media animal welfare and protection was a tedious job for many animal lovers but after the explosion of social media platforms and various organizations initiative many individuals, celebrities, influencers came forward to do their bit to protect the animals against the brutality from we humans. Many celebrities despite their busy and hectic schedule have come forward being compassionate to help these animals and look out for their welfare in the best possible way. Let’s look at the list with some of the good samaritians amongst many from the Bollywood industry who never let the flag down and has been vocal for animal welfare and brutality against animals.

Ayushmann Khurrana
The versatile actor Ayushmann Khurrana despite being one of the most sought after actors in current times ensures his love and affection for the animals remains intact and is always on the forefront to look after animal welfare either by adopting pets or by being associated with Peta and various other movements for animal welfare and protection.

Wamiqa Gabbi
The young actress after her mesmerizing performance in Grahan has been an active animal activist since she was very young. Wamiqa has been vocal about the brutality against animals especially dogs and cows on her social media platforms. She regularly keeps a tab over animals that are rescued through her initiative with various NGOs that adopt such animals. Apart from being an activist, she is also a proud dog mommy for 5 handsome dogs.

Sidharth Malhotra
The handsome hunk Sidharth Malhotra is a huge animal lover and is evident through his social media posts. Sidharth had been associated with various animal welfare associations and Peta. Sidharth has pledged to be more considerate & responsible towards our constantly endangered wildlife as well stray animals around us. He is also a proud owner of a pet dog Oscar which he refers it as his companion. Sidharth has been vocal about his association with various NGOs that look after the welfare of animals and is always up for all kinds of initiatives and brutality against animals.

Richa Chadha
Actress Richa Chadha is other than voicing for climate changes and being vocal for her political views she also actively participate in animal welfare and brutality against the animals and keeps charity work for them regularly. Richa who is known for doing exceptional roles is one of the front runners voicing concerns for animals. She regularly comes in support of Peta to go vegan and brutality against animals. Richa is associated with an animal welfare organization based in Pune that looks after the welfare of various rescued and abandoned animals. She is cat mother to two beautiful Persian cats named Kamli and Jugni.

Alia Bhatt
The young talented youth icon Alia Bhatt other than being known as one of the finest actors in Bollywood is also known as an animal activist who follows her heart that beats for animal welfare and brutality against them. Through her social media posts, she regularly keeps a tab on rescued animals and being vocal about the atrocities met to these animals in the name of poultry farming, milk, and dairy products, meat, etc. She is a proud cat mommy for two beautiful cats  Edward and Juniper that keep her calm her calm and happy.

Jacqueline Fernandez
The beautiful Jacqueline Fernandes is known for her works towards animal welfare. She actively participates in various animals welfare drives. Of all the initiatives the recent one is helping stray cats and dogs get sterilized. It’s very disheartening to see most of the stray animals don’t get proper food and shelter that affect their health. Jacqueline helps such animals with a group of experts in order to provide them food, shelter, and medical assistance. She herself is the proud owner of 4 Persian cats.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu
The super talented Family Man 2 actress Samantha is an ardent animal lover. Her love for animals is evident through her social media posts that she keeps on updating regularly. Samantha has been vocal about the atrocities been done to many animals in the form of food, commodities, and dairy products. She is also associated with Peta to voice her concern. Samantha is also part of various organizations that looks after stray animal welfare. Samantha owns two cute pet dogs that are the major reasons to keep her busy at home other shuffling between Tollywood and Bollywood.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli
The sensational husband and wife duo Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are super animal lovers and have been advocating rights for animal welfare and protection. Recently the couple announced under the Virat Kohli’s foundation they set up two new animal shelters in Mumbai that will look after the medical needs of stray animals. Anushka has been passionate since a very young age about animal welfare and animal rights.
