Continuing with its aim to bring Indian singers and musicians to the forefront, Bluenote Entertainment, an events and entertainment company, recently announced its plans to launch an exciting new platform for musical talent, Malangs. The aim of the platform is to represent and celebrate the diverse talent from across the country by giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities and work collaboratively through original compositions and live performances. The first band formed under Malangs features artists Farid Ahmed and Uma Shankar. Backed by Bluenote Entertainment’s experience in the space, Malangs envisions taking the country’s mine of local talent to the global stage while bringing international entertainment concepts to the local audiences. Saurabh Tankha spoke with Bluenote Entertainment managing director Prashant Kumar to know more about Malangs and its plans for future…
When and with what aim was Malangs formed?
Bluenote has been involved in music business for a fairly long time through artiste management, organising concerts and music shows in India and abroad. As we notice, music platforms have become extremely commercialised and as a result, the audience in general rarely gets to enjoy genuine original music lately. The music market is crowded with remixes and cover versions so we decided to form a platform which could give opportunities to upcoming talents to showcase original content. Our aim, as per our tagline, is “Let’s make music great again”.
Why call it Malangs?
Malangs represent liberated soul and we would like to celebrate this spirit in the form of music. Hence, we would not stick to any particular genre of music. The music of Malangs will be beyond any bonds.

When you say the “aim of the platform is to represent and celebrate the diverse talent from across the country by giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities and work collaboratively through original compositions and live performances”, how are you ensuring the right talent reaches the right place?
As we are in this business for a long time, we have our own creative team and associations with top-class musicians who will carefully pick right talent and work on a project to suit their style and capabilities. We have different gates for screening the talent and the most important part is — we take feedback from layman audience. These are the people who make music either hit or flop.
How do you intend helping this talent pool achieve the most from their musical journey?
We will do our best to showcase their talent on every platform possible and provide them with PR and promotions. Rest depends on their talent and hard work.
How are you ensuring that talent from the interiors of the country is able to make it big?
We will expand in phases. Frankly, as of now we do not have our reach extending to interiors but we are confident that as we will grow in stature we will device a talent hunt policy in near future.
Will these talented musicians only be able to showcase their talent on the national stage or are there plans to go international too?
Our approach is global but everything will depend on the demand of the artiste and success of his project.
