Kolkata’s art gallery Emami Art is all set for India Art Fair 2022. The gallery will be showcasing the curated selection of artworks through two separate booths this year – B11 Galleries Section and B18, Focus Section.
The exhibition by Emami Art at the India Art Fair, 2022 in the gallery section , will bring together the recent artworks by 12 artists – both celebrated and rising stars such as Anjan Modak, Arindam Chatterjee, Arpita Akhanda, Arunima Choudhury, Bholanath Rudra, Bose Krishnamachari, G Ravinder Reddy, Ghana Shyam Latua, Jogen Chowdhury, Prasanta Sahu, Soma Das and Vinod Daroz. The art works fall under the broad and open conceptual framework grounded in the exploration of the connection between aesthetics, regions and contemporary global issues, ranging from the ongoing pandemic and new faces of neoliberalism to environmental crises. The selection highlights the complex aesthetic strategies and elements of vernacular cosmopolitanism in the practices of the artists from the South.
The gallery is participating in the focus booth section as well and proposes a series of works by the Hyderabad-based eminent painter Thota Vaikuntam. One of the most significant figures of Indian modern art, Vaikuntam is known for his unique style of vibrant, colourful painting, inspired by the rural life of Telangana, that he has been closely associated with. In an ornate, stylised manner, Vaikuntam represents the men and women of Telengana, capturing the essence of their physical beauty as well as their culture, tradition, dreams and myths.
