Have you ever felt yourself emotionally tied up with others? Like you have had a fight or a heated argument with someone, and  no matter what you do, you cannot throw their thoughts out of your mind? Even passage of time hasn’t helped. You may feel happy, sad or angry thinking about them even after months, so much so that these thoughts do not let you function, carry on with your life. At other times, even a brief talk with someone leaves you fatigued and drained out.

Have you ever thought why does this happen?

Well, that’s because energetically you are still connected. Some of your energy body is still with the person you have had fight even as some of their energy still exists in your aura.

Energy cords, as these are called, are formed during any interaction or relationship, especially those with strong emotions like love, anger, or sadness. When you feel peaceful and joyous thinking about others, understand the energy cords are positive and nurturing, while when you feel sad the cords are negative can drain your energy or keep you stuck in unhealthy dynamics.

But the good news is, you don’t have to suffer. You can easily disentangle yourself, and be free. The process of doing so is called Cord Cutting. In case you are thinking Cord Cutting will break your relationship with the person, worry not. It won’t. It just gently removes the negative aspects of the bond, creating space for healthier interactions and personal growth.

Actually, Cord Cutting is a very simple ritual, but a deeply personal and spiritual act of self-love, and empowerment. By doing this you release all that which no longer serves you, and create space for the growth of your own soul, its healing, and aligned relationships. It helps you reclaim your energy and live in an alignment with your highest self.

So, how to do Cord Cutting?
To begin with, find a quiet corner where you won’t be disturbed. Create a comfortable sitting space, and light a candle – Sage or Palo Santo are especially helpful. Now, take a few deep breaths to centre yourself in your heart.

Then close your eyes and in your mind’s eye see yourself and the person/ place/ situation you want to cut your cords with connected through thin cords.

Now, picture a pair of scissors made of white light and lovingly cut each of these cords. Visualise the cords dissolving and yourself being surrounded by a ball of white light. Alongside say, I lovingly release all unhealthy attachments to [name or situation] and reclaim my energy.

Thank the person/ situation/ place for the lesson they taught you, and send your love to them.

Now, visualise roots extending from your feet into the Earth, anchoring and balancing your energy.

Sit in this space surrounded by ball of white light for some 10 minutes before opening your eyes.

How to enhance the process
Use crystals like Black tourmaline, Obsidian, or Selenite – these are powerful protection and cleansing crystals.

What Next?
You may feel lighter, freer, and even more energised after a cord-cutting ritual. But it is also common to get emotional – tears may well up your eyes, or you may feel fatigued as your energy recalibrates. Be gentle with yourself.

How many times can this ritual be performed?
As many times as you feel like, till you feel completely free of the negative aspects of person/ place/ situation.
