Aakashvani Sangeet Sammelan to be named after Pt Bhimsen Joshi

Akashvani Music Festival will be named after Hindustani classical vocalist and Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar made this announcement at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Centenary Commemorative function in Pune today.
Besides music broadcasts, All India Radio (AIR) organises Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan in which established names from the field of music perform. “Doordarshan and AIR have opened the doors of huge musical treasure of Pt Bhimsen Joshi to general public. These recordings are now available on YouTube, and the Ministry of I&B is making efforts to reach them to larger audience across India,” said Javadekar. Pt Bhimsen Joshi was honoured with Bharat Ratna in 2009.
