I will always indulge in Nature photography

At 14, JIVITESH SINGH is perhaps the youngest wildlife photographer in the country. The class IX student of Delhi’s Mausam Vihar located SLS DAV Public School picked up the camera at the age of four. Ever since he has been an avid lensmen, capturing some fantastic and out-of-the-world shots through his lens at sanctuaries, national parks and wetlands, in India and abroad. No wonder that the Delhi teenager has won innumerable awards during this period. He talks to LIFEANDMORE about his passion, studies, inspiration and more…

When did you pick up the camera for the first time and do you remember what you clicked?
My father gifted me a camera on my birthday when I was four. However, I don’t recall what I clicked first but I remember visiting Okhla Bird Sanctuary first with it.

Is there anyone in the family from whom you got inspiration?
My father, Dr Vikram Singh, an award-winning photographer including a gold medal from the Photography Society of America has been my inspiration. He is very passionate about Nature and wildlife photography and I have learnt everything with and from him.

Your first personal camera…
Nikon D3200.

How much time do you devote to photography in a day?
I can’t devote time for photography daily but whenever I have free time, I visit the banks of River Yamuna near my home as it is a good place to find birds. You can find me there on most weekends.

How do you balance studies with photography?
Study is a daily routine whereas photography I do only on weekends.

Would you want to become a professional photographer or keep photography as a hobby and become a professional?
It is too early to decide at this moment as it will depend upon the circumstances and opportunities. But it is sure I will always indulge in bird, Nature and wildlife photography.

Plans for future.
Yet to be decided as I am, at present, focussing on both studies and photography.
