Swapna Priyadarsini says no medium can replicate the magic of films

Team L&M

It is difficult to slot Swapna Priyadarsini, one of the Top 10 Finalists of the @MTV SuperModel of the Year Season 2. Is she a model, a dancer, an actress, or a stage performer? Well, she is all rolled into one, she simply loves donning so many hats. Her journey into the world of entertainment began in the late 2000s with participation in the Telugu TV Show, Dance Baby Dance organised for pre-teen children.
Moving further, she participated in and received accolades in many contests like KIIT Miss Little India, ALEE Club Miss Teen India and Miss Tourism & Culture Universe, bagging titles like Miss Little Active & Miss Photogenic.
“I loved the glitz and glam of the industry, and my mom constantly inspired me to achieve more and more. That’s perhaps the reason that besides national level dance competitions, I even took part in a few dance reality shows in the South India. It was my way of getting my introverted self out of the shell,” says the alumni of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bilaspur, Chattisgarh, currently pursuing BBA from Amity University.

Model, dancer or actor
I love playing all three roles, and they all have my heart. I also feel that they are deeply connected with each other. In modelling, you have to act with just your face. In dancing, you have to act with your whole body as well as your expressions. In acting, you have to address the camera like a model, as well as do dance numbers. So, in a way I get to take the skills that I have developed in each field and apply them to the rest. In this way, I fit in all three perfectly.

Stage, films, OTT or television
Her favourite medium is films. Even though these days, with the exception of the stage, all three have almost the same level of production and story development. What really separates films from the rest is how they connect with the viewers in the theaters. That is where you get to see the magic happen. That moment, when you are sitting in a movie theater with your friends and family, and can feel the energy of the crowd. How they react to each twist and turn. Even though all those people don’t know each other, they still react as a unit. In that environment, even waiting for the ads to finish before the movie starts feels like a sacred ritual in itself. You simply can’t replicate that experience in any other medium.
