It was just a fortnight ago that www.lifeandmore.in interviewed Roopa Rao, the writer-director of countryโs first same-sex web series, The โOtherโ Love Story. And mentioned about the talented filmmakerโs maiden feature length film in Kannada, Gantumoote, having its world premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) 2019 on May 11.
So, it did. And guess what! The movie not only won the Best Screenplay Award at the Festival but was also officially selected by the Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards.
Gantumooteย (baggage) is an intense coming off age, high school drama set in Bangalore in the 1990s. It is a tale narrated from a girlโs perspective, which is fairly rare for Indian cinema, more specifically to Kannada cinema. It is aย storyย of herย struggles in understanding herself and the ever-changing world around her,ย educational pressures, bullying, competition over marksย โ all of it wrapped up in transcending journey of first love.
