Come April, and the book Who Gets Elected: How and Why, by Psephologist Pradeep Gupta will be released. Gupta, who is the Chairman & Managing Director of Axis My India talks in detail about how does one win an election continually. With expert insight and an understanding into the psyche of the common Indians as they make their decision about a leader, this is a must-read for everyone who wants to be well-informed about election processes in India.

Published by Rupa Publishing, this book addresses how needs drive democracy and the choice of a leader, the role of bureaucracy in translating leaders’ vision into action, the game of alternatives, why Indian poor vote more than the rich and caste arithmetic for successes and failures, among several other relevant topics.

Says Gupta, “Elections in a country like India are far too complex and my journey has been equally challenging in demystifying them! During years of experience in conducting exit polls, I got the opportunity to interact with voters and politicians that helped me to recognise what the jant desires and what the neta aspires. Basis this, the book is a humble attempt in providing readers with an understanding of how politics is a science that is driven, by a combination of understanding human behaviour and its systems. It details down the Indian election processes and how voters make decisions based on whom they believe will be the greatest fit to fulfil their needs and desires.”

Gupta and Axis My India are considered touchstone for their exit poll analyses, which has successfully predicted 59 of 63 exit polls since 2013. The book is a reflection of their rewarding efforts in understanding voter psychology using well-recognised election forecasting model which is included as a case-study in the prestigious Harvard Business School curriculum.
