Soma – The Ayurvedic Kitchen, India’s first Ayurvedic kitchen located inside Maharishi Ayurveda Hospital, New Delhi, has been awarded the prestigious Sattvik Certification by Sattvik Certifications Singapore. The certification recognises Soma’s uncompromising adherence to purity, hygiene, ingredient safety. Further, it also recognises the authentic Ayurvedic food preparation methods rooted in classical Vedic principles. The certificate was presented by Sattvik Certifications Founder Abhishek Biswas.

As an integral part of the hospital’s holistic healing ecosystem, Soma aligns with the Vedic Diet, one of the six pillars of Maharishi Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, Ahara (food) is a primary pillar of wellbeing. Soma was established to ensure every meal, whether for Panchakarma inpatients or visiting guests, is prepared according to authentic Ayurvedic principles. This, in turn, supports balance, healing, and inner bliss.

Rigorous Evaluation Process

The Sattvik Certification follows a rigorous evaluation of Soma’s ingredient sourcing, kitchen processes, food-handling protocols. Further, it also means adherence to sattvik dietary guidelines, including natural, seasonal, chemical-free ingredients. It also means balanced preparation methods, and the complete avoidance of rajasic and tamasic influences.

At Soma, food is personalised, with every dish guided by experienced Vaidyas to balance Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Guests receive insights into their prakriti, imbalances, dietary needs, and seasonal rhythms.

A unique aspect is the use of Gandharva Veda music, believed to enhance digestion and elevate sattva. Played by season and time of day, it creates a harmonious, tridosha-balancing ambience.

Located within the serene campus of Maharishi Ayurveda Hospital, surrounded by nature, medicinal gardens, and a gaushala, Soma naturally supports sattvic living. It is further strengthened by all staff practicing Transcendental Meditation twice daily to bring clarity and coherence to food preparation.

Speaking on the recognition, Lakshman Shrivastava, Director, Maharishi Ayurveda Hospital, said, “Soma was created as a natural extension of our healing environment, a place where food acts as medicine. The Sattvik Certification is an important validation of the discipline with which our team maintains purity and authenticity in every stage of food preparation. This acknowledgment strengthens our ongoing mission to offer truly Ayurvedic, safe, and wholesome meals to all.”
