Crafts villages

Eight craft villages being developed under ‘Linking Textile with Tourism’ plan

Team L&M

Under its “Linking Textile with Tourism” scheme, government is linking major tourist places with handicrafts clusters and also providing infrastructure support combined with soft interventions. Eight craft villages – Raghurajpur (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Vadaj (Gujarat), Naini (Uttar Pradesh), Anegundi (Karnataka), Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu), Taj Ganj (Uttar Pradesh) and Amer (Rajasthan) have been taken up for overall development of the villages wherein craft promotion and tourism are being taken up at single location.

Craft villages will develop handicrafts as a sustainable and remunerative livelihood option for artisans in the clusters and thus protect the rich artisanal heritage of the country. Around 1,000 artisans will be benefitted directly across the country through this programme, which has also increased the tourist inflow across these craft villages.
