A childhood moment at the iconic Taj Palace, New Delhi changed the course of architect Yamini Agarwal’s life. As a teenager visiting the hotel, she was mesmerised by its stunning interiors. That experience sparked a dream — to one day design beautiful spaces herself.
From Delhi to Milan: Building a Design Foundation
Determined to follow her passion, Agarwal pursued a B.Sc in Interior Design from Spectrum Institute, Delhi, after completing her schooling at Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan.
To further refine her skills, she moved to Italy and enrolled for her Master’s degree at Politecnico di Milano, one of the world’s leading institutions for architecture and design.
While studying in Milan, she also worked as a draftsman with Lombardini22, gaining practical exposure to global design practices.
“Even while studying in Delhi, I worked with an architectural studio,” she recalls. “I believe working during your studies helps you connect education with real industry demands.”
Launching H5 Design at 26
The experience she gained during her studies gave her both clarity and confidence. Inspired to carve her own path, Agarwal founded H5 Design, an interior design firm known for creating holistic, luxurious, ergonomic and sophisticated spaces.
Today, at just 26, she is already making a mark in the design world.
A Design Philosophy Rooted in Personalisation
Unlike many designers who rely heavily on Western design trends or magazines, Agarwal follows a more personalised approach.
Her design philosophy begins with understanding the client.
“We invest time and energy in understanding a client’s personality, experiences, tastes and preferences,” she explains. “We then blend these with the energy flow principles of Vastu Shastra to create holistic spaces that enhance comfort and prosperity.”
Ambitious Plans for the Future
Agarwal has clear goals for the future of her firm.
“In the next two years, we want to establish a niche in the residential design segment and also venture into commercial and hospitality spaces,” she says.
Her long-term vision is even more ambitious. She hopes to transform H5 Design into an internationally recognised brand.
“By 2025, I want H5 to become a versatile global name synonymous with innovative interior design,” she says. “The company will branch into different departments and design verticals, pushing the limits of design and the services we offer.”
A Strong Support System
Agarwal credits her family for playing a major role in her journey.
“I feel blessed that my family has always supported my career choices,” she says. “They encouraged me to learn, grow and build the confidence needed to run H5.”
Creativity Beyond Architecture
Design isn’t just a profession for Agarwal — it is a way of life.
She spends most of her time thinking about design, whether working on projects, visualising new ideas or researching emerging design philosophies.
When she is not working, she enjoys reading fiction and inspirational books and experimenting with exotic cooking.
Creativity has been a constant presence in her life since childhood. From the age of nine, she was involved in her mother’s business of designing and manufacturing luxury wedding invitations — an experience that nurtured her love for craft and aesthetics.
