Conference on handcrafted goods held at Gandhinagar

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) organised a conference on โCarving a Niche Market for Indian Handcrafted Goodsโ at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat during its first-ever three-day mega event Textiles India 2017 held between June 30 and July 3, 2017.
The Union Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India, Drย Mahesh Sharma presided over the conference along with Mr Anant Kumar Singh, Secretary (Textiles), Govt. of India and with eminent speakers Ms. Rosy Greenlees, President, World Crafts Council Intโl, Mr O.P.Prahladka, Chairman-EPCH, Mr Rajeev Sethi of Asian Heritage Foundation and Mr Ravi Sharan, leading exporter from the handicraft sector.
Dr. Sharma emphasized on the need to launch a nationwide project to preserve rich heritage and culture of India. Indian heritage is world famous for its rich culture. He informed the gathering that Cultural Mapping of India has already begun. It is a scheme for online registration of artisans across the country, he informed. More than 1.20 crore artisans have already registered on the online portal under this scheme.
A book โHandcrafted in Indiaโ was also released on the occasion.
