Banjara Kasuti, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering the Banjara community of Lambani women in North Karnataka, has launched its latest collection, “मृदु” (Mrdu). Derived from Sanskrit, “Mrdu” signifies softness and smoothness, perfectly encapsulating the essence of this new line.
The Mrdu collection is a tribute to the simple joys of life and the beauty found in everyday moments. Designed to seamlessly transition from AM to PM, this collection brings a fresh perspective to daily wear, blending comfort with elegance.
Crafted with handloom cotton and natural dyed block-printed fabrics, the Mrdu collection features the intricate geometric Lambani embroidery that is the hallmark of the community’s rich artistic heritage. The collection also incorporates the delicate and airy cotton malmal fabric, adorned with traditional Lambani embroidery, adding a touch of sophistication to everyday attire.
Key features of the collection include:
Stripes: Clean, crisp lines that add a modern flair to the traditional aesthetic.
Kotli Stitch: A unique element that showcases the fine craftsmanship of Lambani embroidery.
Side Panels with Patch Work: A nod to the patchwork traditions of India, blending old-world charm with contemporary style.
Commenting on the launch, Asha Patil, Founder of Banjara Kasuti, shared, “The Mrdu collection is a labor of love from our artisans, who have infused the traditional Kasuti embroidery with a vibrant, modern twist. This collection is not just about fashion; it’s about preserving our cultural heritage while offering comfort and style for everyday life. The patchwork and block prints give the collection an ‘old money’ Indian feel, making it perfect for those who appreciate both tradition and timeless elegance.”
