Meet ZEFAAN KANWAR aka ZZ. Based in Los Angeles, the young and talented artiste talks about his life and more…
Zefaan is a very unique name. What does it mean and why ZZ?
I don’t know the history of my name or what it means but what I do know is that I love it and it’s extremely memorable. ZZ is what all my friends used to call me in school so I just went with that. No one’s forgetting ZZ anytime soon.
When was the first time that you get attracted towards music and when did you decide to take it up as a profession?
Throughout my entire childhood, music was a big part of my life. Whether it be playing the piano or hanging Eminem posters in my room at age six, it’s been a big part of my life. I decided to take it up as a passion when my friends and I were just messing around making stupid songs. We kept on experimenting with new styles and had lots of fun throughout the process. Eventually the music started to sound pretty damn good and that’s when I knew that I found a new way to express myself.
Tell us about DEGENERATES and its making?
DEGENERATES is a collab album between me, Lil Littlez & Thorii. Both Thorii and Lilz have been a part of my life for a long time so the making of the album was very effortless and at the same time so fun. We really bring out the best in each other when we get in the studio together. One day we were so productive we recorded 13 songs! Start to finish. It was a crazy experience. We had friends walking in and out watching us record and giving us ideas. The entire making of the album was so wholesome and collaborative, it sort of makes the album the community’s album. We really just wanted to have fun with this album and make people dance, get lit and behave like degenerates.
If you were to rate the music lovers of cities in terms of understanding music during a show, which will be the top three cities in the world and why?
I don’t think any particular city has music lovers who wouldn’t understand good music. I think music is a medium of art that can be enjoyed regardless of language or culture. If you make good music, people all over the world will listen and enjoy.
Who has been the most inspirational person in your life and why/ how?
I don’t have a single most inspirational person but I am inspired by Steve Jobs, Stanley Kubrick, and my parents.
What is Zefaan Kanwar doing when he is not breathing music?
Watching either Community or Chuck.
What plans does Zefaan have for the future?
I plan on releasing a LOT more music that’s more true to me. The new music I’ve been working on is very pure and introspective and I’m excited to share it with the world.
