Two workshops were held at St Antony School, Ghaziabad late last week. Both for teachers, one was on ‘Effective Teaching and Classroom Management’ while another was on ‘Dealing with Slow Learners’. Organised by Marina Publishers, these were undertaken by Resource Person Ashwani Kumar Sharma.

During the workshop on Effective Teaching and Classroom Management Sharma enlightened the teachers about the various innovative teaching strategies which can bring long-term benefits for the learners, especially in the post-pandemic era that demands highly-evolved techniques to handle the smart students.

Effective teaching

Classroom management is the most significant aspect of teaching, said Sharma while sharing various tools which were devised to increase the level of concentration and participation of the learners in the class.

Mid-way through the session, Sharma organised an interesting activity which witnessed whole-hearted participation of teachers. This session concluded with tips about the importance of self-analysis and introspection for better performance.

During the session on Dealing with Slow Learners, Sharma stressed that slow learning should not be considered a disability. It is just that these people are different from the rest and face different challenges and hence have to be treated differently. St St Antony School in Ghaziabad.

“Learning is an essential process that continues throughout life. As in any other field, changes are inevitable in the education sector as well. While technological innovations have been received well by educators, many schools continue to promote the traditional one-size-fits-all approach in teaching, which can impair learning in ‘slow learners’ . This is the most significant point to think about,” he said.

“We need to handle ‘slow learners’ sensitively. Since they cannot adapt to a rigid and fast-paced style of learning, doing so will result in a gap between their true ability and their performance level,” he added, talking about various ways in which such students can achieve their maximum potential.  “As teachers, you must be patient with such children, and give a personal touch to all these students,” he said.
