In a significant move towards modernising school education, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially launched a Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum for students from Classes III to VIII. The announcement, made by Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan, marks a pivotal shift in India’s academic landscape.

The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of “AI for Education, AI in Education”, aiming to embed technology-driven learning from an early stage.

Why This AI Curriculum Matters

The introduction of AI and computational thinking at the school level is more than just a curriculum update—it reflects a broader transformation in how education prepares students for the future.

At its core, computational thinking acts as the foundation for understanding artificial intelligence. It nurtures essential skills such as logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem-solving—capabilities that are increasingly vital in a digital-first world.

The curriculum is deeply rooted in national education reforms, particularly the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023.
