Excerpts from an interview:

Tell us about your dancing journey. How did it all begin and who were your teachers?

Dance unexpectedly became a core part of my life. During my 10th standard vacation, watching Dharmesh Yelande on Dance India Dance sparked a turning point. I knew instantly that I wanted to express myself through movement. My first teacher in Ahmedabad, Joseph Tenson Stanley, introduced me to the basics of dance and helped me understand rhythm and foundation. Later, Yuvraj Sharma honed my street styles, locking, popping, house, and hip-hop, over several years. Those years shaped my technique and confidence.

After moving to Mumbai, I collaborated on initial projects with Punit J Pathak, and then spent one to two significant years working closely under Nishant Bhat. That phase refined my understanding of choreography, storytelling, and performance on a larger scale.

You are today considered an Instagram dancing star. How do you feel about it?

I don’t know if I’d call myself a star, but I’m genuinely grateful that my work is getting recognition. Social media has given me a platform where my art can reach people instantly. It’s exciting to see dancers from different cities and even countries connect with my choreography. The appreciation motivates me to keep pushing boundaries.

Dancers across the country are copying your moves and even your choreography style. How do you stay different?

Honestly, it’s flattering. When dancers emulate my moves or recreate my choreography, it tells me that my work resonates with them. But what keeps me different is staying true to myself and constantly evolving. I try to infuse emotion into every choreography. Steps can be copied, but the emotional depth and intention behind movement make it unique. That emotional storytelling is what truly sets me apart.

Which has been your most amazing choreography and with whom?

One piece that’s very close to my heart is “Madari.” I choreographed it independently, and it represents my personal artistic voice. It wasn’t about impressing anyone, it was about expressing something real. The response it received online made it even more special for me.

You conduct workshops across cities. How is it to teach the new generation?

Conducting workshops and mentoring the next generation is incredibly rewarding. I see so much passion in young dancers today. When parents reach out, wanting their children to learn from me and build a future in dance, it’s heartwarming. It feels like dance is no longer just a hobby, it’s becoming a serious career option. Being able to guide and inspire an entire generation gives my journey deeper meaning.

How was your reality show journey?

My reality show journey began with India’s Got Talent, where I performed as part of the group Dark Criminals, later renamed Janam. We made it to the semifinals, which was a huge milestone for us. Later, on Dance Plus 5, we reached the finals under the name Janam. That experience was intense and transformative.

I’ve also assisted on various shows and stepped in as a replacement choreographer for Sushant Khatri on India’s Best Dancer during the COVID phase, which came with its own challenges. I supported Nishant sir on Dance Deewane and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and also contributed creatively to Bigg Boss. Each show taught me something new about scale, professionalism, and adaptability.

What do you think is the future for internet and Instagram dancing stars in India?

The future looks promising. Social media has shifted the spotlight from reality TV to digital platforms. Building a strong Instagram presence opens doors to brand collaborations, advertisements, and international exposure.

At the same time, I believe longevity will depend on authenticity and growth. Viral fame is temporary, but consistency and originality sustain a career. The internet has democratized opportunities, now it’s up to dancers to use that platform wisely and continue evolving.

Through discipline, emotional depth, and digital adaptability, Noel Alexander represents a new generation of dancers, rooted in reality show experience but empowered by the limitless reach of social media.
