To help youngsters understand how to study, prepare for exams and manage stress during the exam time, the Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare under the aegis of the Fortis School Mental Health Program, has launched the first book on Study and Exam Skills, as part of the comic series Laugh & Learn with Dr. Parikh. The book uses a funny and engaging narration and is a very useful guide.
The series is conceptualised by Dr Samir Parikh, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences and his team members – Kamna Chibber, Divya Jain and Mimansa Singh. The Laugh & Learn series is interactive in nature. This comic has two primary characters, Addy and Anayka, through whose interactions various skills are outlined throughout the comic. It is designed to address the concerns children have when preparing for examinations and provides them with the right life skills to be able to do well in them. Written in an animated form makes the narrative engaging for students, teachers and parents. The conversations in the book revolve around enabling positive messages, inculcating skills, building resilience and coping in children to deal with the challenge of studies and examinations.
“Children as well their parents and teachers tend to get extremely stressed about exams. It is important to help everyone view studies and exams in the right context and as teaching critical life skills to students. Our team has been working with schools across the country to empower students and help them prepare for important milestones in their lives. This is the first topic in our series and we would subsequently be looking at other important areas of social and emotional well-being for students as well through this comic,” said Dr Parikh, director, Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences. The book is priced at Rs 395.
