How about blue tea today?

For centuries, it has been consumed as a memory enhancer, brain booster and anti-stress agent. But only recently has Butterfly blue pea flower tea been introduced to lovers of the brew and apprised them of its qualities and utilities. And it wasn’t until earlier this month that I got to savour this tasty drink, during a meeting with clinical and sports nutritionist Dr Vaibhav Garg at his Gurugram clinic. I was consulting Dr Garg for a story related to him assisting athletes in managing diets and getting the best out of their training and performance. It was here that he had called for this aesthetically beautiful looking drink in blue.

Even as we sipped the brew, I remember Dr Garg informing me that the distinctive tint comes from the deep blue colour of the flower’s petals which had been used as a dye for eons. The flower, he had told me, comes from a plant common to South East Asian countries. Dr Garg is the founding force behind Purecise, a 100% natural and vegan brand providing homegrown nutritional supplements with Butterfly blue pea flower tea being one of the many products.

Manufactured and marketed by Gurugram-based Salutaire Living, Purecise Butterfly blue pea flower tea is made of Butterfly blue pea flower and organic Indian green tea. The combination of these two healthy teas makes it highly beneficial. As it contains anti-ageing properties, the herbal infusion cleanses the body and improves the health of the skin. Rich in antioxidants, the tea is an instant stress reliever. This tea can be brewed multiple times and you can increase the water temperature with later steeping.

One of the aspects of the tea is the fact that the liquid changes color based on the pH level of the substance added to it, for instance, adding lemon juice to the tea will turn it purple.

At Rs 290 for 40 g, it sure is expensive but then all good things come at a cost, don’t they?
