On the occasion of World Music Day today, Bollywood actress, singer, writer and painter Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has released her new single Shararat. Produced by Suchitra herself, Shararat has been composed by Bangalore-based singer and composer Sunita Nagarajan while the lyrics have been written by the Mayur Puri, who is known for Om Shanti Om songs. .
The new release marks Suchitra’s entry into the music world after a hiatus of five years. Its video, shot by Kunal Verma, is clean and uncluttered. The focus is clearly on the melody and the lyrics of the song allow listeners to play with their imagination and immerse themselves in its beauty. The lyrics have a very modern context that questions the traditional notions of the male-female dynamics and romance. It takes an independent yet soft stance allowing people to delve into their own version of romance.
Suchitra strongly believes that music is a gift of the divine and it’s her way of expressing her gratitude. She say, “Shararat symbolises my philosophy towards life, to love and all things beautiful and playful. It’s my way to tell life I love you back. If you look at life with mischief, joy and lightness it will always reward you with a smile.”
Talking further, she says, “I feel grateful for being able to lend my voice to such a beautiful composition by one of my favorite composers Sunita Nagarajan and beautiful poetry in the form of lyrics by Mayur Puri. Suchitra has to her credit pop albums like Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha and Zindagi.
The singer-actress began her career in the entertainment industry with the TV series Chunnauti and made her breakthrough in films in 1994, with Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, a commercial and critically-acclaimed hit in which starred opposite Shahrukh Khan. She has also done some webseries on OTT platforms.
