Over the centuries, the living tradition of Odissi has been perpetuated by the Maharis (devdasis from Odisha) and the Gotipuas (young boy dancers dressed as girls). The event promises an enchanting evening in store for all art lovers when Madhulita and dancers from the leading Odissi ensemble, Nrityantar reveal the beauty and elegance of Odissi dance to viewers’ delight.

Counted among the foremost exponents of Odissi dance of her generation, Madhulita has found a way to appeal to the millennials with her new-age works in Odissi dance. She has been applauded for her inventive choreographic skills and her adeptness to keep her audiences engaged with imaginative use of movements and space. Whereas the dance movements look fresh and innovative, they are deeply rooted in foundations of classical Odissi dance. Under her training, vision and supervision, young talented dancers of her troupe, Nrityantar Dance Ensemble, work tirelessly to meet the highest standards of artistic display. Young and talented Madhulita has carved a niche as one of the leading Odissi exponents in south India. A graded artiste of Doordarshan and an empanelled artiste of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), she is admired and applauded by the connoisseurs and critics alike, for her profound artistry and her innate abhinaya quality. She is the recipient of the prestigious IIDF and BCKA Yuva Kala Pratibha awards and has performed extensively in India and abroad. She is selflessly devoted to the promotion and popularisation of Odissi in South India dance through her institution, Nrityantar, by performing, teaching and nurturing fine talents. Under her direction, her Odissi dance troupe, Nrityantar Dance Ensemble has fast emerged as one of the most sought after Odissi troupes, is invited by major art festivals in India and have mesmerised art connoisseurs all over.
