Home spa treatment during the Lockdown

The entire world is facing the Covid-19 crisis, which has impacted our health and lifestyle. New terms like lockdown, social distancing, masks, sanitisers have all become a part of life. Like all businesses, the beauty and wellness sector has also been negatively impacted.  In fact, the negative effects are more pronounced where the beauty salon and spa business is concerned. Beauty salons are closed and even when they do open, business will be slow till we can instill confidence and trust in our customers. But, there is no need to despair. You can easily care for our beauty needs at home. In fact, you can even have a home spa treatment.

For a home spa treatment, find a place that is peaceful. Have scented pot pourri in the room, light an aromatherapy candle, or use a diffuser with fragrant tea lights. Music plays a very important role in creating the mood. It is said that the sound of water is extremely soothing. Nothing like soft instrumental music too!

Make a fragrant body massage oil. Add two drops of rose essential oil to 50 ml of olive oil.  Rose oil is said to have a calming effect on the mind. It also improves blood circulation to the skin surface. Olive oil, of course, is ideal as a body massage oil, as it not only nourishes and softens the skin, but restores the normal acid-alkaline balance of the skin. It is also an ideal carrier oil for essential oils.

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and also stimulates blood circulation to the skin surface. Take sesame seeds, dried mint leaves and honey. These ingredients add a glow and have a remarkably revitalising effect on the skin, both for face and body. Crush the sesame seeds coarsely and powder the dried mint leaves. Mix them with a little honey and apply on the skin. Leave on for 15 minutes. Then rub gently and wash off.

Miracle bundle for bath: An ideal way of using natural ingredients is to tie ingredients in a clean cloth, wet slightly and then rub the cloth bag on the skin. Mix powdered milk, oats, rice powder and rose petals. The ingredients work on your skin, gently cleansing it and leaving it soft, smooth and vibrant.

The home spa treatment: Start with exfoliation. Mix the scrub ingredients and apply them on the face and body. After 10 to 15 minutes, rub gently on the skin with circular movements. Wash it off.   Then have your oil massage, with the fragrant oil (mentioned above).

Take a shower or tub bath. Rub the cloth bundle on the body while bathing. If you can soak in a tub bath, add rose petals to it too, to heighten the spa experience. Or, after your shower, end with a bucket bath, to which you can add rose water or eau-de-cologne.

At home, one can build exercise, meditation and diet into the treatment, to achieve the benefits of both spa and beauty treatments. Set a day aside for the spa treatment at home, do yoga and a few minutes of meditation, have a cleansing diet of fruits, salads, nuts, seeds, yogurt and fresh fruit juices, and also have your body treatment. The main idea is to get away from it all, and also be able to unwind, relax and get rid of stress.
